Up with the larks……….6am…sleepy-eyed and semi bushy-tailed!!
The usual tension leading up to checking in at the airport – i.e. will Monarch Airlines have all the info on their system to confirm that we can take all the extra weight with us? No worries. Jenny Adams at (The Gambia Experience) is a star for organising it all for us. Big shout to her and a small token of appreciation and thanks coming her way in the mail!

We are actually doing it! Crikey! And all from a discussion over a few Negro Modelo’s at our friend, Jonathan and Victoria’s apartment, in Brooklyn around April/May time. We have Nick Niles to thank for this, as he inspired us with his talk over the kitchen counter (hey, all the best parties are in the kitchen!) of having done the Camino Santiago pilgrimage (check name/link) – which basically entails walking across Spain for 500 miles. He said that it had been a life-changing experience. Florio and I looked at each other over that counter and I said “how far do you think it is to walk around The Gambia?” Low and behold, the idea was spawned. Once we started to talk about it more, the more we realised that we had to do it – plus, there was no way we could back out of it, now all our friends knew our plans!
Why The Gambia? We both love and know the country to a large degree so, Gambia seemed the obvious choice for our maiden expedition experience (we are already talking about the next one!!). However, neither of us have had any real experience way up country so this expedition will be the perfect opportunity to well and truly experience rural Gambia.
